I received today yet another egregious example of a “privacy statement” – this time from AAMI, who also remind me that “Privacy is Important” ..
… but then go on to a wide ranging list of 26 bullet points of places where they may disclose my personal information, including to
“social media and other virtual communities”
What a wad of worthless words.

I should just let it go, but it irked me so much that this “privacy” statement is so meaningless that I e-mailed the company asking in what possible sense of the word can this document be considered to be a privacy policy. This was their response …
“We disclose this personal information to enable us to get a better understanding of you, your needs, your behaviours and how you interact with us, so we can engage in product and service research, development and business strategy including managing the delivery of our services and products via the ways we communicate with you; and respond, communicate and engage with you via that Social Media Site.”
… which more or less confirms that their “privacy” statement is just a long winded way of them saying they’ll do whatever they like with my personal information.
