This image is a combination of two photos in the University of Newcastle Cultural Collections

The cricket ground on the left is “New Lambton Oval”, which is now Harker Oval. Rising up the hill can be seen Rugby Rd, turning right onto Russell Rd along the ridge. On the far left of the photo can be seen the General Roberts Hotel (Alma Rd New Lambton) In the foreground is the Lambton colliery railway, which ran just to the south of Womboin Rd Lambton.
